The very first thing you should do when hiring a web developer is to ask for a portfolio. Any experienced website creator – even a just graduating student – will be at the ready to share with you either a list of client sites or some presentation of created designs that he or she has built.

The next thing you need to do is examine these creations asking yourself these EXACT 5 questions:

[+] Does the overall site look very busy or too plain?

[+] Do the colors and images suit this particular site’s purpose?

[+] Is the navigation easy to understand as well as easy to use? Does it employ a well thought-out menu structure? If you cannot easily navigate the sites you are looking at, say thank you very much and look for another developer.

[+] Is each page of the website clearly defined? Can you click through several pages seen where each is clearly marked with a heading?

[+] Do all the sites have a unique look? When you look at several creations from the same developer, do they start to look identical, possibly just similar, because if so, say thank you and look for another developer.

Any search is going to find that the costs associated from one developer to another may vary quite considerably. You may find a college student, even a high school student, who is trying to build that all-important portfolio who can offer you a more-than-competent designed website at far below the going rate.

This is especially true if you’re seeking to have quite the basic website requiring nothing that is outlandishly customized or employs a lot of scripting for interactive components. Consider the fact that student web developers are so enthusiastic and constantly on top of their game that they may indeed be a great choice looking for something that is unique as well as functional at a very good price.

However, you may find that if you’re in need of specifically customized graphic designs and many server-side or database driven features, you may need to call upon an experienced developer who will obviously charge much more.

In any case, student or a veteran developer, it is highly recommended that you acquire several quotes, and make sure that these are always odd numbers so you’re not comparing one-to-one, but will likely compare one-to-one-to-one.

Since the goal of the majority of sites on the Internet is to conduct business, you’re going to want to find a web developer who has fundamental search engine optimization skills when designing a website. Search engine optimization, also known as SEO, is the procedure designing a website so it will rank as high as possible for certain targeted keywords on a search engine like Google.

You’re going to want any visitors looking for you to find you in several ways including using your company name, but you may also want them to find you looking for your particular type of company in your specific city. The ability to rank for certain keywords is a large part for your organic marketing success when people look for you on the Internet. If the developer you choose is not conversable with SEO tactics, the site you purchase will never attain high search engine ranking.

Like every business in the real world, those existing in cyberspace can profit from using business statistics that track certain trends in certain time periods. The same types of statistics are useful to gain an understanding of just how well your website is functioning as a commerce tool.

Therefore, make sure that your selected web developer understands use of a powerful tool like Google Analytics and directs you to sign up for an account where you can obtain a simple code that the developer can pace at the bottom of each one of your website pages.

If your developer does not mention this, make sure that you do. It should not be a deal this breaker, since you might buy artwork without the artist recommending a frame. However, it does concern the installation of code that does fall into the web developer’s realm of activity.

Another important aspect to consider when hiring a web developer is post-construction maintenance. The trend in recent years is to develop websites that include a content management system (CMS) where site owners and users have the ability to make simple updates like changing text and uploading and adding photos.

Numerous technologies businesses created it via the current recession and kept profit up by cutting costs as product sales declined. But a wave of upbeat earnings reports in current weeks has created it clear Large Tech is seeing a return to development that might keep on into following 12 months and beyond.

Consumers are flocking to purchase the latest smartphones, tablet computers along with other mobile gadgets. Numerous companies are starting to replace aging fleets of PCs, server computers and networking gear. Others are shopping for new equipment to make probably the most of current advances in commercial software and also the explosive development of on the internet providers, which has prompted businesses to expand their networks and personal computer centers.

“Companies are starting to reinvest” in technologies, mentioned Sean Randolph, president and CEO of the Bay Area Council Economic Institute.

Specialists warn that continued economic uncertainty, particularly now in Europe, could throw a wrench within the tech recovery. And even though a number of Silicon Valley businesses have promised to add employees, it is not clear whether they will be hired within the U.S. or overseas.

But the tenor of tech earnings reports within the Silicon Valley in current weeks has been overwhelmingly upbeat:

• Intel reported product sales were up 44 % in its most current quarter, compared having a 12 months ago. CEO Paul Otellini mentioned recently that he expects product sales and profits will keep on to grow by 10 % or slightly a lot more more than the following few years.

• Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers mentioned he expects product sales to grow 25 % to 28 % within the current quarter, compared having a 12 months earlier. He added that the prospect for meeting the company’s long-term goal of 12 to 17 % average year-over-year development “appears to be even a lot more likely.”

• Hewlett-Packard raised its forecast for 2010 for the second time because last fall; it is now predicting annual revenue will grow 8 to 9 % more than the $114.6 billion in product sales the organization reported in 2009.

That kind of development is particularly dramatic, given that all three businesses are already huge. Intel may be the world’s greatest maker of chips for PCs along with other computers.

Cisco may be the world’s greatest supplier of routers and switches for personal computer networks. HP may be the world’s largest technologies organization by product sales, and also the leading maker of PCs and printers, too as a major supplier of commercial computing gear and tech providers.

“After numerous clients deferred hardware purchases in 2009, we are seeing strong development in numerous our companies,” HP CEO Mark Hurd told analysts last week.

Consumer strength

Consumer-oriented businesses like Apple, Netflix and Electronic Arts have all reported large product sales increases within the past month.

Google and Yahoo have also given upbeat reports. But analysts say the greatest shift might be occurring within the commercial tech sector.

Consumers kept purchasing gadgets throughout the recession, particularly following some businesses lowered their prices to prop up product sales.

Those habits will keep on, mentioned Ben Bajarin at the business consulting firm Creative Strategies: “So much technologies has been woven into the fabric of society that individuals just depend on these things,” he mentioned.

Numerous companies, meanwhile, froze their budgets and stopped purchasing tech gear in 2008. Now corporate buyers are purchasing again, or getting ready to do so.

According to Ken Male of TheInfoPro, a research firm that tracks business-tech purchasing, “you will see pretty great spending via the 12 months and most likely into 2011, too.”

Simple improvement

The past two quarters have been “easy compares” for tech businesses, because weak product sales throughout the recession created it relatively easy to show improvement a 12 months later. But specialists say longer-term business trends are giving executives great reasons to expect continued development.

New “virtualization” software helps businesses operate their information centers a lot more efficiently, but it is also prompting them to purchase new hardware created to make probably the most of those advantages. And also the wider adoption of cloud computing, which lets clients and employees access info and providers more than the Internet, is prompting businesses to expand their networks and information centers.

“That’s going to keep on for the following couple of years,” mentioned tech analyst Ronald Gruia at the Frost & Sullivan consulting firm.

“The large question,” Gruia added, “is what’s going to happen to the world economy.”

A number of Wall Street analysts, in fact, mentioned they were surprised when HP and Cisco executives recently downplayed concerns the Greek financial crisis might create broader havoc across Europe.

Stephen Minton at the IDC research firm mentioned some corporate clients are purchasing hardware they need right away, but they’re still reluctant to make longer-term investments because the global economy remains unsettled.

The law of attraction is a potent tool when marketing anything. Experienced marketers will tell you that to sell something, especially from a distance you have to create an emotional reaction between the product and its audience.

Look at most of the television shows and advertisements on any network. The majority of the cast are slim and good looking. Chosen to illicit a certain reaction within the audience, namely attraction. Business schools teach that attractive people sell more products, and I’m afraid it’s true. Beauty is prized in our society and marketers exploit this as much as they can.

Times, and trends are slowly changing though. With the changing size of the population, “real” people are being featured more in advertising to connect with people. If they react emotionally to someone who looks like them, an emotional bond however weak is created. This bond can be strengthened by clever scripting or using realistic situations. Not all casting decisions are made on looks alone. The “girl next door” or “Mr and Mrs Average” are also useful characters who can create emotional links to the audience. The casting choice depends a lot on the product being promoted and the tone of the production.

Sound is also a large part of attraction. Think of some of the most popular advertisements of the past ten years, and I’ll guarantee there will be a memorable soundtrack to them. Music can influence the mood, and the tone of the piece. For example an active, dynamic soundtrack will convey profit, efficiency, modern and go-getting products or companies. A slower beat, calmer music will convey the opposite, luxury, classy and comfort.

The right soundtrack is essential to match the tone and goal of the video production. Choosing the right score or track is the mark of a good production team. Choose original scores if the budget is limited and popular music if you have a bit more to spend.

So you have the cast and you have the soundtrack. All you need now is the right script and the right situation. Words have power, and carefully chosen words will influence those who read or hear them. Emotion and humor translate well on video, and are useful in video marketing so use them if you can.

Creating a novel, imaginative video is the first step in making it go “viral.” This is what we’re aiming for, and even if it falls short of that status, it should still net a decent enough audience. Using the information in this post will serve you well if you’re planning to make your own video. It will also serve you well if you decide to get the professionals in, as you’ll have some idea of what they’re talking about.

Usability testing is often viewed as time consuming and expensive. While this may be true in some instances, it doesn’t have to be. It’s like any other part of web design, the more time and effort that is spent on it, the better the result should be.

You will never completely eliminate the time consuming aspect of testing. A tester has to assume the mantle of a user at varying skill levels, performing different activities within the site. Allowing them time to do this, then provide feedback and results, then analyzing those results does take time, but it should be viewed as an investment, not just a cost.

There is nothing more important that having a new design tested purely from the users perspective. The site has been designed for them after all. We have been staring at the site and working our way round it for days, if not weeks so we can’t test it ourselves.

Three useful ways of getting inexpensive, reliable user testing is by using the online tools Userfly, UserTesting.com and ClickTale. All three use real users to test your site and provide feedback on the experience.

Userfly is only suitable for smaller, simpler sites as it has problems with playing back the review in an iFrame which doesn’t match the element of the site they are using. If the design is simple and it’s pretty obvious what action was taken and when, this isn’t a problem.

UserTesting.com is a much more thorough and reliable testing system, albeit more expensive. The site allows you to specify the demographic of the testers, how many you need and what you want them to do on your site. They arrange for the testing and provide a video so you can see exactly what the users did, and listen to an audio commentary the user made while doing it. They then provide a written summary of the testing including what elements the testers did or didn’t like.

ClickTale is similar to UserTesting.com but slightly cheaper for some of the options. It also records user behavior and provides a video and written summary of feedback for you to use as you see fit. The testing also includes a heat map generated during testing for you to analyze hot spots on each page. This is great for refining navigation or page content.

These aren’t the only three user testing tools out there. We have found them to be the most reliable and who provide the best kind of data and feedback. Detailed information on how end users utilize the new site is essential in making the most of the design and ensuring its success. Using impartial, user oriented testers is by far the best way of achieving this, which is why we suggest using this method of user testing.

A client who can update, manage and control their own website with the minimum of fuss is a happy client. Organizations that can manage its own content without having to have a designer on staff is a happier organization.

Fortunately these are things we can offer our clients in the form of CMS, or Content Management Systems. They are the latest in web design and offer an unparalleled freedom in the construction, design and upkeep of a website.

Developing an SEO friendly CM system adds extra benefit for the client as they then need to spend less on external SEO services. While we can create a CMS that adds SEO to its repertoire, it will never be its primary goal therefore you will probably need some help with SEO, just not as much as you might have done.

The RT Design Group are The Naples SEO company and can help with either solution. We can design and implement an SEO friendly CMS and/or help with the SEO of your existing site.

An SEO friendly CMS should be able to generate its own sitemap in XML when requested or automatically. Google likes sitemaps as they make its job of crawling your site that little bit easier. There are plug-ins you can add to certain CMS that do this kind of thing for you, but it is much better to have the capability built-in.

It should also be able to configure its own URLs to consider optimization while still allowing for easy navigation. Adding keywords to a URL is an effective way of optimizing a site, but they also have to be navigable by users. Having a coherent structure on a page or post title configured so it works for optimization as well as navigation is a tricky thing to accomplish, but possible given the right skills.

The site must have a logical structure. If a robot or user is to navigate effectively there should be a logical order in the way the information is presented. A confusing layout or poor navigation will not only confuse users, but the search engines too. A site must be able to be crawled regularly if you’re going to rank in SERPs.

As well as a logical structure, the site also needs to be flexible. A good SEO friendly CMS must also consider those who maintain and update it. It should be straightforward for a user to add content, keywords and tags. All of them will have an impact on the SEO viability of the site, and therefore the position in the results.

All of these elements go to make a good SEO friendly CM system. Consulting a professional team about a website can open these kinds of possibilities for your business. Call The RT Design Group now for a free no obligation quotation.

What follows is a list of some of the sources we use to keep up with developments and learn new skills. Some of them teaches us something new, while others reinforce what we already know. We don’t know everything, as much as we might like to believe we do. Each website in this list offers us something, and they are included in this list in case they can help you too.

One of the most popular resources on the net for graphic design is Smashing Magazine, (www.smashingmagazine.com). This is a well established site with a regular audience of web developers and graphic designers. It has imparted knowledge since it began and continues that trend to this day with plentiful tutorials on web design, Photoshop and all the other toys we get to play with during the day. The forum is remarkably quiet for a site so lively, but the information it contains is sound.

Next up is tuts+, (www.tutsplus.com). This is another high quality site and one we use here in our office in Naples. Graphic design at its best with high quality tutorials written by experts. It is the hub for all of the Tuts+ sites and is great place to start when searching for information or inspiration. The site is aimed at beginners and pro’s alike, but is more geared towards advanced users. It leads off to subordinate sites like psdtuts, for Photoshop, aetuts for Adobe After Effects and so on.

Another useful site is called CreativePro, (www.creativepro.com). This is another resource site aimed at existing graphic designers. There are more categories and tutorials on that site than any sane person could read. There is literally something for everyone here. Beginners may find things a little hard going as most of the content is for advanced users, but who said design was easy?

Sitepoint is the last site we are going to mention here, (www.sitepoint.com). This is another site aimed at experienced graphic designers or web developers, but has a lot of information and resources for the newcomer too. Often there are other tips, like how to run the business side of things, or practical advice for clients and that kind of thing. Sitepoint has been around a few years, just like Smashing and has built up a loyal and vocal fan base. The marketplace is an excellent place to go if you have spare templates, JavaScripts or other stuff to sell too.

Those are just four of what I am sure are thousands of sites out there. They each offer something different and are lively enough to keep us going back every week. Hopefully they will give other Naples graphic design enthusiasts a hand up as they have done to us.

Being a web developer is a great career if you don’t mind long hours and cold coffee. It lets us use our imaginations and creativity as much as we like and get paid for it. It’s important to try new methods and ideas, as well as embrace new technologies as they mature. It’s way too easy to build the same old sites with the same navigation or functionality day after day, but that’s not what we’re about.

The RT Design Group is successful because we don’t follow the crowd. We don’t design cookie cutter sites, or use templates to create. We use what we have and let our imaginations get the better of us. We way “why not?” instead of “why?” and that pays dividends.
Major Naples Web Design Companies

Naples Web Design

RT Design

Fort Myers Web Design

Isoosi

Naples WebDesign

There is a definite balance that needs to be struck between a design idea and practicality though. It’s all very well having a killer design, but if it’s difficult to navigate or find anything it’s a failure. Whatever the concept, the function has to win over form and the main job of a web developer is to balance the two.

It sometimes hurts when the design you are so enthusiastic about won’t work because it breaks usability rules. You have to put yourself in the shoes of the end user and consider how they would use the site and navigate their way round it. Ask any developer or artist who has had to compromise on a concept or abandon it because it doesn’t work. They will tell you it isn’t easy, but it is necessary in order for the client and the end user to get what they need.

It sounds pretty straightforward when you think about it. After all we aren’t designing something for ourselves, or even our client. We are designing for the end user who will actually be using the site in the real world. It’s hard sometimes, because when you put a lot of time, sweat and tears into something you become fond of it and think of it as yours.

Being a Naples web developer, and working a lot with local people and businesses allows us to build relationships with them. It also makes it more personal, and drives us to do a good job for them.

This makes the whole process that little bit harder. Especially when it comes to form over function. In the end, however good the artwork or design might be, it has to fit the brief. It also has to fit the brand of the client and the needs of the users. The user must be able to navigate everything easily and the client must be able to update it just as simply.

So while the design is important, and something we at The RT Design Group are very good at. It is second to function. The whole point of a website is to provide the visitor with exactly what they need, exactly when they need it. All other considerations come second.

Are you a business that needs email hosting? We have the solution right here. The features you will receive with our hosting are astounding. Many companies will try to persuade you with all kinds of technical terms that sound promising and often will not deliver. What we deem to be the most important aspect to any customer is support. It is our number one priority. We understand that hundreds of different features can be intimidating and many may not understand what they do or what they are used for. I would first recommend researching the unknown, but we are here to help.

There is free email hosting on the web, but those are for personal use. Hosting with a variety of tools is the type business should use. Besides customer support, another tremendous feature that we have is protection against viruses and spam. We block any incoming spam messages so the possibility of having a virus with our email is near zero. We have satisfied customers everywhere. Contact us for a list.

If you own a business and do not have web hosting or email hosting, it is eminent that you get one. Starting with us could be your new profiting solution. Remember, advertising in newspapers and radio may get your business known locally, but having email hosting can help your business grow worldwide.

I’ve had some questions such as “should I pay for email hosting?” or “should I host my own website?”
I used to ask this question myself. It is definitely better to pay for hosting. It’s never expensive. As a matter of fact, it is more expensive to pay for an internet connection than it is to pay for email hosting. Owning a business is all about getting customers to your site. We excel in getting our package to the tops of search engines such as Yahoo, Google, and MSN. If we can do it, we can help you do it as well. Hosting your own site would take you an extraordinary amount of time, become overly complicated, and you would be paying a lot more than buying monthly buying from us.

Sometimes it will be even less expensive if you buy a year in advance. This way you won’t have to see a continuous monthly statement on your bank account. It is also important to have a domain name, which we can offer, whether you need one domain or multiple domains, with our email hosting.

Using free services will make your domain name look unprofessional. For example, if you use a free service like Angelfire, the word Angelfile appears in your URL and customers will not take you seriously. We can check the web to see if the domain name or names are already in use. In my previous experience, I would highly recommend a dot com for a business.

Email hosting is a service every business needs and we are here to help every step of the way. When businesses work together, the result is always success.
